Monday, March 9th was a long and very exciting day for Addie Benedict, a first grade student at Washington Elementary. Addie woke up extra early to make the trek to the Capitol Building in Des Moines where she was recognized and honored by Governor Terry Branstad for her artwork.
Addie’s artwork and
the artwork of only twelve other K-12 Iowa students was selected for
essentially the highest honor in the state of Iowa, the Governor’s Show.
The Governor’s Show is on display in the Governor’s Offices
throughout the month of March for Youth Art Month.

reception with Governor Branstad. Joining Addie for the tour and

Congratulations to Addie Benedict, Harmony Bailey, Ryan Giberson, and Sailor Scott! These students are invited to an awards ceremony on March 7th. Their artwork is included in a display of some of the best student artworks from around the state.
Addie Benedict was specially selected to participate in the Governor's Show. She is additionally invited to a reception with Governor Branstad and Lt Governor Reynolds! Her artwork will hang in the Governor's offices through the month of March!
Ten student artworks from Washington Elementary were selected as entries into the show. The following students were also entries, which is an honor: Archer Kreuter, Makenna Heyn, Rowan Terrell, Giteeka Adhikari, Alisha Brinkschroeder, Isabelle Meador.
